If celebrities know how to do anything well, it’s definitely vacationing. Beyonce’s envy-inducing family vacation photos of her, husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue on a yacht are enough to make anyone want to hop on a plane and get to the South of France immediately. But how can mere mortals vacation like celebrities? Believe it or not, there are some tricks of the trade that can make your trip more VIP than ever.
It’s kind of like research, but more fun. When you pre-search in anticipation of a vacation, you put yourself in the best position possible. Sometimes it takes time to figure out what the hottest, most interesting places are—in any given city. Apps like InList even allow you to find curated A-list bars and restaurants in any big city.
Another great way to pre-search is to talk to people who have lived in the city you’re visiting—find out what the secret spots and great deals are. Many times, natives or people who used to live in a city will have excellent recommendations—and maybe even connections that you can use to your advantage.
Have a Great Online Presence
Rumor has it that some swanky hotels now do web searches of guests when they check in. If the guest has a lot of social media followers—or is what is considered an “influencer”— then establishments may seem more willing to offer special upgrades in the hopes that the influencer might make some positive posts about the hotel.
Make Friends Wherever You Go
Many celebrities are excellent at making new friends—and this is usually part of the reason why they have gotten to the top of their respective professions. Learn to cultivate new friendships and to make others feel special in a genuine way. Read Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends & Influence People for tips on how to do this. It is a skill that many celebrities have refined, and it can come in handy when you are traveling.
If they like you and/or are impressed by you, people will be more willing to extend a helping hand and make sure that your vacation is incredible. They may take you to new and different places that aren’t listed in the guidebooks. And this is what vacationing like a celebrity is all about, after all—having access to the hidden best sites in every locale.
